Academic Program

Berklee Valencia will be a college of contemporary music unlike any that has come before, anywhere in the world. And its academic opportunities and programs of study will be just as innovative as the college itself. The distinctive music program, which is being created and administered by Berklee, will be devoted to advancing contemporary music education, studying and applying leading-edge music technology and international music business models, and promoting the diverse musical traditions of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East that have come together in and around Valencia. And most of the programs of study will offer areas of music education that are new to Europe, focusing on contemporary music and involving music technology as an integral component.

Program Awards

Berklee Valencia will offer both undergraduate program awards, including a Bachelor’s degree, and a Master’s degree.

Programs of Study

Initially, Berklee Valencia will offer five postsecondary programs of study:

  • Music for Film and Integrated Media will combine a strong foundation in composition, arranging, and orchestration with the most recent developments in the technology and artistry of music production that focus on creating music for a wide variety of contemporary areas of media, such as film, video games, television, commercials, web-based applications, and live and recorded performance.
  • Electronic Production and Design will focus on a variety of traditional and emerging musical technology art-making formats, including audio recording, acoustic and technology systems innovation and design, multi-focus music technologies, and manipulation of computer-generated images that are musically integrated with computer-based musical composition and sound design.
  • Global Music and Entertainment Management will focus on the skills, concepts, and methodologies of business models that can be applied to the artistic, management, and entrepreneurial challenges of music and digital media in the international contemporary entertainment industry.
  • Symphonic Band Studies will be the first program of its kind, designed for students with prior musical education who are interested in working with symphonic bands. With over 500 symphonic and concert bands in the area, Valencia and the neighboring communities are viewed by many as the "Band Capital of the World," and they provide a rich educational and training environment for advanced study and work with symphonic bands. Symphonic Band Studies will include areas of specialization and be offered only as a Master’s degree.
  • Mediterranean Music will study the emerging cross-pollinations and fusions of global music prevalent in and around the Mediterranean area.

Please note that the above programs of study are subject to change.

Special Programs

Another unique feature of Berklee Valencia will be the regular offering of special programs in contemporary music, including clinics, workshops and seminars, and short concentrated study in many of the subjects covered in the programs of study listed above.
